RANDOMN: Money: It's Just Stuff

It seems so important some times, but it is important to remember that it is just stuff. You can do good things with it or bad things with it, but it seems to pull us toward selfishness and discontent faster than almost anything else. So let's look at money from a different perspective.

A quarter's edge has 119 grooves; a dime's has 118. Go ahead and check.

The Bureau of engraving and printing produces approximately 38 million bills a day with a face value of more than 274 billion dollars.

A stack of currency one mile high would contain more than 14 million bills.

George Washington's portrait first appeared on the US dollar bill in 1869. The President shared space with an image of Christopher Columbus.

As long as you can produce 51% of the bill, the Office of Currency Standards will replace it.

The clock on the back of the US hundred dollar bill reads 4:10. It's a mystery why this time was chosen. Maybe Nicholas Cage can tell you in National Treasure 3.

The very first batch of coins produced by the US mint, in 1793, consisted of 11,178 pennies--only $111.78.

When the first US mint opened in Philadelphia, it was guarded by a dog the government bought for $3 in 1793.

Money that is too old or worn out often is recycled to make roofing tiles, stationery, and other things.

George Washington refused to allow his portrait on money bc he thought it made him look like a king. Guess that tells you how influential he was.

If you placed 2.2 million dollars in pennies side-by-side, they'd stretch from new York City to San Francisco, California.

If you had 10 billion one-dollar bills and spent one every second, you wouldn't spend it all for 317 years. So get busy Bill Gates.

Gold bars worth nearly 6.2 billion dollars are locked up tight in a vault in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Why? The gold backs up the US money system.

Money. Use it wisely and don't let it use you unwisely.

Many people offer up a false quote from the bible regarding money. They say "money is the root of all evil." The actual quote is slightly different in wording and vastly different in meaning. What is the real quote? And where is it found?

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil...
(NIV)
